Down and Out in Rancho Santa Margarita

Image
When a reporter asked bank robber Willie Sutton why he robbed banks, the line he uttered became such a popular way of stating the obvious that it became known as Sutton’s Law: “Because that’s where the money is.” In 2015, 70-year old retired California detective Randy Adair landed in prison after robbing his fifth bank, confounding his friends and old coworkers. Why would a respected lawman with a pension and family commit crimes ? In Los Angeles Magazine , journalist Jeff Maysh asks that same question and finds out how things went wrong for Adair. His first was on the afternoon of March 24, 1969, when a silent alarm inside the United California Bank in Mid City signaled a robbery in progress. Exiting the bank with the cash and a loaded revolver when Adair and company arrived, the thief turned and ran back into the building. They found him in a second-floor restroom, where Robert Lee White surrendered . He’d eventually confess to being the Wilshire Bandit, who’d hit nine banks in

Cary residents worry plans for multifamily housing on former Maplewood school property are too dense

[Sarah Nader] Some residents said they enjoy the small-town, open-space feel in Cary, and worried that a proposal to bring what some called a high-density, multifamily housing development to the site, 422 W. Krenz Ave., wouldn't fit. More than 40 residents came to the meeting Tuesday, and most of those who spoke during public comment opposed the new concept, citing concerns with the density of the project, parking, traffic and construction. Three people in the audience said that they liked the concept. “Change is always difficult. We’ve developed a culture in that area, and we don’t want to see that lost,” said Mike Boyce of Cary. “Our village was born on single-family ideas. I understand the tax issues and how much we need that ... but I don’t think anyone wants to see commercial in this residential area. ... I don’t want to see one more car going down my street because of this development.”

Patterson also said her family had been notified. There are no suspects at this time, according to Patterson. “Detectives are out there right now following up on leads that have been coming in since then,” he said. It’s also unclear whether Dangerfield’s murder had something to do with her being transgender. “At this time we don’t have anything that’s telling us that, but we’re not ruling out any possible motive,” Patterson said. The incident occurred just two days after a Midtown rally and

NeoNazi allegedly murdered his roommates in Florida for insulting his conversion to Islam

Image
TAMPA, Fla. – The friendship of the four young roommates – though cemented in the dark trappings of an obscure neo- Nazi group called Atomwaffen Division – never seemed destined for bloodshed. One was described as a former science nerd, serving in the Florida National Guard . Two others worked temp jobs at a recycling plant and talked about joining the military. The fourth caught flak from his roommates for wasting his days with video games. Now two of the young men are dead, the other two are in jail and authorities are left to answer this question: Was Atomwaffen Division plotting violent acts or were the four young men merely posers? Greenbriar Apartments management tossed residents' furniture to evict vermin - News - Holland Sentinel

By Andrea.Goodell@HollandSentinel.com(616) 546-4275 It seems a bed bug infestation at low- income senior apartments came to drastic measures last week when maintenance workers at the Greenbriar Apartments tossed the furniture of about a dozen residents over their balconies and into the snow. Residents have complained about bed bugs in their apartments to local, state and federal agencies during the past several months. Last week, the Greenbriar Apartments , 121 Waverly Road, was inspected by dogs trained to sniff out bed bugs. Thursday evening about 6:30, a notice was slipped under Sue Coulters door . The bed bug-sniffing dogs had detected the parasites in her apartment and workers would be by the next day to throw out her furniture. Since last summer, strips of white, sticky cardboard have been conspicuous in Coulters apartment , under the furniture, by the walls. Each monitor, given to her by management, captures any little creepy crawly that happens to crawl over it. I told t
