Fire investigators said that a Monday night fire at a Vancouver apartment building was unrelated to a fire at the same complex earlier this month. Vancouver firefighters were sent to the Madison Park Apartments , 12901 N.E. 28th St., just before 8 p.m. Monday and crews arrived to find flames coming from a second-story window. Within about five minutes, firefighters snaked a hose to the apartment and knocked down the blaze, which was burning in a single room. Investigators have since determined that the fire, which caused an estimated $17,500 in damage to structure and contents, was intentionally set , Vancouver Fire Marshal Heidi Scarpelli said. She wouldn’t divulge information about how the fire started so as to not compromise the investigation. No arrests have been made, but investigators are actively pursuing leads , Scarpelli said. WALTHAM — The massive fire that destroyed a big apartment complex under construction in Waltham in July was caused by arson, investigators said Thursday, with damages estimated at $110 million. Initially, fire officials had said they did not believe the 10-alarm fire was suspicious. But once they began investigating the charred remains in detail, they began to rethink the cause, Fire Chief Paul Ciccone said. Ostroskey. “That led us to this point.” The blaze began in the early morning on Sunday, July 23, and demolished the five-building complex on Cooper Street near the Charles River. Edward Brookins Mobile Fire-Rescue Department   19-year-old Edward Brookins of Mobile was arrested by police on Wednesday afternoon in connection with setting an apartment on fire in west Mobile. MFRD spokesman Steve Huffman said fire investigators are looking into a fire that was started on Tuesday (August 15) at the Oak Ridge Apartments located at 4215 Moffett Road. The fire was reported at approximately 1:34 p.m. when Brookins was approached for questioning and ran from investigators. A male suspect believed to be in his early 20's is being sought after by the Mobile Fire Rescue Department in connection with a fire at the Oak Ridge Apartments . LAS VEGAS (KXNT) – Las Vegas Fire and Rescue said five adults and three children from two separate apartments are being helped by the American Red Cross after fire ripped through their apartment. Las Vegas firefighters responded to the Green Tree Apartments , 517 N. 28th Street, on Sunday around 2:35 p.m., after fire dispatchers received calls that a fire was burning in the yard behind the apartment. When firefighters arrived, they found that the outside fire had spread to the two story wood frame/stucco apartment building. Other firefighters arrived within minutes and found the fire had spread to an upstairs apartment . they had the fire under control in just a few minutes. The fire was contained to the one apartment. One bedroom was gutter, and the next bedroom had heavy heat and smoke damage. There was minor damage to the apartment next door enough that the people that lived there will be displaced. Mobile Fire investigators released photos of the man accused of setting a fire at Oak Ridge Apartments on Moffett Road Tuesday afternoon .  The suspect was approached for questioning but ran away from investigators and into the woods off Wolf Ridge Road . Witnesses say the suspect then entered a silver sedan and escaped.  The driver of the vehicle could also face charges. The suspect is a black male believed to be in his late teens or early twenties. A fire destroyed an apartment on Tucson's northwest side Monday . No one was injured in the Aug. 14 blaze, said Capt. Brian Keeley of Northwest Fire District . Shortly before 2:30 p.m., a 911 caller reported a fire in their apartment at Enclave at the Foothills at 7300 N. Mona Lisa Road , Keeley said. The neighborhood is north of West Ina Road near North La Cholla Boulevard . Two residents at the apartment left after reporting the fire. Firefighters put out the fire and prevented it from spreading to other apartments. The apartment above the burning apartment suffered minor smoke damage , Keeley said. Fire investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire. A damage estimate is unknown at this time, Keeley said. The Northwest Fire Community Assistance team is working with the Southern Arizona Chapter of the American Red Cross to aid any residents who are displaced, said Keeley.

SAN ANTONIO - Fire investigators are looking into what caused an old apartment complex to burst into flames Monday afternoon . It happened at the Magnolia Arms apartment building in the 100 block of Magnolia in the Monte Vista Historic District just north of downtown. San Antonio Fire Chief Charles Hood said the fire broke out in a unit on the first floor, but spread quickly to the second floor and attic. "It did extend up into the attic," Hood said. "So, we had to chase it. These older apartments and homes, (it's) a lot of manual labor because they are built so doggone good so, the fire travels and we're just trying to chase it and figure it out." Hood said they initially responded with a large number of units because Magnolia Arms is an old apartment complex, but he said they also had a large response because of the heat. SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane fire crews responded to a fire at the Greentree Apartment Complex in Browne’s Addition Friday afternoon . Spokane Fire Department Chief of Operations Mark John said crews arrived on scene and saw heavy smoke and fire on the third floor of the complex. Crews also saw residents quickly exiting the building as the fire continued to burn. All occupants escaped the complex with no reported injuries. John said the fire was under control within 20 minutes. The cause and origin of the fire are still under investigation. Investigators confirmed three apartments on the third floor were affected by the fire and deemed uninhabitable. The American Red Cross will be assisting the four adults who have been displaced. OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Overland Park firefighters battled a two- alarm apartment fire near 119th Street and Switzer Road. Firefighters were called to the Highland Ridge Apartments in the 11800 block of Perry Street just before 11 a.m. Friday. Advertisement Smoke and fire were showing when fire crews arrived at the scene. Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control. No injuries were reported. Firefighters rescued one dog, but another dog was found dead in the building. Eight units in the building were damaged. The Red Cross is helping those displaced. Fire investigators said the fire started in a first- floor apartment , but the cause has not yet been determined.

HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) - Neighbors are hailing a Hartford woman as a hero after she ran into a burning building to save an 8-year-old girl. The fire broke out at an apartment building on Hillside Avenue on Thursday, around 6 p.m. There was a child inside the building, and one neighbor risked her own life to try to make a dramatic rescue. “When I saw the fire, I threw my phone, I threw everything I had and I just ran upstairs to try to save people,” said Magda Quinones Rivera , who said she knew her friend’s 8-year-old daughter Jenelli Thomas was inside the building. “We tried breaking the door open and make sure there were no people but the fire was already strong, we kicked the door, it was very strong,” Rivera said. She eventually got inside and found Thomas in the hallway, surrounded by smoke, and scooped her up in her arms. A man suspected of first-degree arson for allegedly starting a fire in his Belmont apartment unit earlier this month was arrested on a warrant Sunday night following his release from the hospital after he was treated for injuries he sustained in that blaze. Around 9:30 p.m. Aug. 6, the Pueblo Fire Department was dispatched to a fire at the Casa Del Sol Apartments on the 1700 block of Constitution Road and arrived to find heavy smoke coming from a unit. Upon entering the apartment the smoke was emanating from, fire personnel discovered that there were two separate and distinct fires inside , according to an arrest affidavit. One of the fires was located near the center of the living room near a pile of materials, and the other was in the bathroom. There were three points of origin for the fires, police said. After surveying the damage at the Woodhollow Apartments on Tuesday, Fire Chief Charles Hood said it was too risky for arson investigators to enter the one building that was reduced to rubble. But Hood said they have spoken to witnesses, so he hopes that will lead to what started the three-alarm fire. Hood said Monday's dangerously high winds "could have easily burned up the entire block." "Fighting a wind-fed fire like that is like fighting a blow torch," Hood said. However, Hood credited the more than 100 firefighters for containing the fire to a single building with 36 units, of which only three were unoccupied. "It's a testament to the training and the commitment of the firefighters," Hood said. "We're extremely proud of them." DALLAS- A burning SUV caused a three- story apartment building to catch flames in far North Dallas. Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to a 911 call at the McCallum Meadows Apartments finding a burning SUV under a section of covered parking. Flames were able to make it to the attic of the three- story apartment building by way of a tree located in front of it. Firefighters were able to to extinguish the three-alarm fire by deploying hand-lines, limiting most of the damage to the building. With a total of 24 units in the building, one sustained a majority of the damage with a handful of others having various degrees of smoke and water damage. There were no reported resident injuries , but two firefighters are being evaluated for heat exhaustion. Investigators determined the cause of the fire to be accidental in nature.

Justice James d’Auguste ordered that an independent receiver be appointed to manage two Midtown residential buildings where the landlords allegedly allowed illegal Airbnb rentals to occur. The case, which began when the city sued the landlords in February 2015, has become one of the battlegrounds in a larger war between city enforcement agencies and short- term rental sites like Airbnb.
