New Baltimore Farmers Market adds pet adoption to annual corn roast | Life

A new event is set to debut at the New Baltimore Farmers Market’s upcoming corn roast.

The market will most a pet adoption event in conjunction with its fourth annual Corn Roast & Summer Fun Day this weekend. The event is scheduled to run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the market, located next to the New Baltimore Recreation Center building on Washington Street downtown.

Local animal rescues set to participate in the pet adoption event include Luvum All Animal Rescue in Marine City, Detroit Animal Welfare Group in Romeo and A Rejoyceful Animal Rescue, based in Mount Clemens.

Homemade pet supplies will also be featured at the event from Lucy Lou Doggie Boutie and Doggie Denim.

The market’s annual corn roast has historically been its biggest event of the year, welcoming about 4,000 visitors in past years. Organizers believe the pet adoption event could draw even more people to the market this weekend.

Visitors typically spend the day sampling corn, shopping and enjoying other summer activities. The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary New Baltimore Flotilla 20-14 has served as the market’s “official corn roasters” in the past.

A free shuttle service will be offered for the upcoming event. The bus runs about every 20 minutes to and from the market. Riders are picked up near the main entry doors at the following locations: Meadows at Anchor Bay, 50785 Jefferson Ave. in New Baltimore; Pinewood Apartments, 30100 John Rivers Drive in New Haven; New Baltimore Place Apartments, 51140 Huntley Ave. in New Baltimore, and Bramblewood Apartments, 31950 Clark St. in New Haven.

This year’s Corn Roast & Summer Fun Day is being sponsored by First State Bank.

The farmers market runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sundays through Oct. 22.
