Birmingham PD: Child, man shot during attempted robbery

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Birmingham police are investigating a shooting that happened during an attempted robbery at an apartment complex in Birmingham Monday evening.

Police say the altercation happened at Valley Brook Apartments on Gallant Drive. Two people were shot by an attempted robber, including a child under the age of 10 and an unidentified man.

The two victims reportedly left that scene where the altercation happened then drove to a gas station on Center Point Parkway for help.

The man was reportedly shot in the leg and the child was shot in the hand. The child's injuries are reportedly not life threatening. The man was taken to an area hospital for treatment. No word on the extent of his injuries.

Authorities are still searching for the suspect in this incident. No details about that suspect are currently available.
