The Apple Hill Apartments in the City of Jackson have been given a major facelift. The complex, located at 15 Orchard Lane, has been the subject of a recent large-scale renovation project which involved rehabilitating the site's 40 apartments both inside and out. In order to celebrate the completion of this project, the group that owns Apple Hill Apartments - the Provident Companies - hosted an Open House and ribbon-cutting ceremony on the afternoon of Wednesday, Aug. 16. The event involved remarks given from stakeholders in the project including representatives from USDA Rural Development, the Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing (OCCH), the Ohio Housing Finance Agency (OHFA), Jackson-Vinton Community Action (JVCA), Park National Bank and the Provident Companies. The ceremony began with comments from the Provident Companies representative Robert Bender, who expressed his pride of the reborn Jackson facility. Among those given thanks by Bender were officials from the City of Jackson, specifically Jackson Police Department (JPD) officers. He stated the assistance from local law enforcement agencies has allowed the Apple Hill culture to take a turn for the better. "Erika Keaton, the site manager here, has said the entire police department has been a great partner," Bender said. "We have been able to clean up the atmosphere and provide safe, decent, affordable housing."

Also present for the event were Jackson City Councilmen Jon Hensler and Jeff Elliott, and Council President Eric Brown. During his comments, Hensler expressed his appreciation for Apple Hill Apartments having been chosen by OHFA for the rehab project and also thanked the site's residents for choosing Jackson as their home. In all, OCCH representative John Kircher said there was a total investment of approximately $3.4 million in the Apple Hill Apartments project through a partnership with numerous governmental agencies and financial institutions. Following the comments portion of the event, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was conducted and a brief tour of a select group of the site's apartments took place. Apple Hill offers affordable housing units with one, two or three bedrooms, with maintenance and manager personnel on-site. Amenities include kitchen appliances, central heat and air, front porches and rear patios. The site also has a community building with an office, laundry facilities, a community room and an exercise area. The Provident Companies, aside from the Apple Hill Apartments, also own the Wellston Villa Apartments and the Karen Apartments in Oak Hill.
