Woodcrest Country Club will be preserved in perpetuity under a deal reached between owners and town officials . (Photo: JOHN ZIOMEK/Courier-Post) Story Highlights The Short Hills complex, to be made up entirely of affordable units , would be developed by Fair Share Housing Center , a Cherry Hill- based advocacy center for affordable housing . CHERRY HILL – A deal to preserve Woodcrest Country Club could put more than 800 apartments on commercial sites on the township's west side, including the current headquarters of Subaru of America. The plan, which needs a judge's approval, would include from 90 to 124 units for people with low and moderate incomes — part of an agreement to settle a 30- year court fight over Cherry Hill's affordable-housing obligation. Township officials have said the agreement would bar future development at the 180- acre country club . The club's owner, Cherry Hill Land Associates , had sued the township in an effort to build an 844- unit apa...

Apartment complex proposed for ‘downtown’ Lynbrook | Herald Community Newspapers

By Mike Smollins Village of Lynbrook officials are mulling a proposal by development company Mill Creek Residential to build a luxury apartment complex on Rocklyn Avenue, near Merrick Road. Hot Skates, Fun Station USA and Hi Tech Security now occupy the three-acre site. “Today’s apartment residents are craving a downtown living experience along with convenient access to a mix of urban and suburban lifestyle experiences ,” Russell Tepper, a senior managing director at MCR, wrote in an email to the Herald. “Lynbrook’s new residential community would serve all types of residents … so that they may take advantage of the luxuries of suburban living , without sacrificing the trappings of an urban, modern lifestyle.” MCR acquires and operates high- end rental communities across the country, and has built complexes in West Hempstead, Mineola, Yonkers, Westchester County and New Jersey. Tepper said that the company would create a transit- oriented residential community — a walkable nei...

No tax credits for Sevier low-income housing projects | News

NASHVILLE – Officially known as the Low- Income Housing Tax Credit Program administered by the Tennessee Housing Development Agency , an initiative that could have brought up to three housing developments to Sevier County resulted in none of the three proposals being selected for awards of tax credits. Had any of the three proposals been approved, the development would have represented the first time since 2012 that a multifamily housing development in Sevier County received state allocations in the form of tax credits from the agency. Proposals for tax credits were made in February by private developers across Tennessee for either the construction of new units or the rehabilitation of existing units. On Tuesday, THDA released the results of its ranking system for projects proposed across the state. Michael Blade, THDA's director and assistant legal counsel for multifamily development , verified that none of the three projects proposed for Sevier County made the cut. "N...

North Cheyenne affordable apartment complex clears rezoning hurdle | Local News

CHEYENNE – A proposed apartment complex that would offer low- and middle- income housing in north Cheyenne won a key stamp of approval Monday night when the City Council voted to rezone land for high-density development. Councilman Dicky Shanor was absent for the 9-0 decision. Developer Summit Housing Group plans to build a three-building, 72-unit complex for low- and middle- income residents east of Converse Avenue between Storey and Dell Range boulevards . Sam Lang, a Summit senior project manager , said his firm is aiming to break ground on the project by early next year pending city approval of building plans . Despite indications that the council would support the move, nearby homeowners who oppose the project again came out to protest the developer’s plans and city processes . Krystal Lewis, who lives on Plainview Road just east of where the apartments would sit, said the complex was stretching the city’s zoning rules and development code. The complex didn’t call for e...

Arlington Heights residents criticize plan for apartments

A developer's proposal for two apartment buildings along Northwest Highway in Arlington Heights near the Metra station received pushback Monday , with neighbors and the village board expressing concern the project would be too dense. Brian Properties showed plans to build two 4.5- story apartment buildings totaling 106 units at the northwest and northeast corners of the Northwest Highway and North Walnut Avenue intersection . The sites are currently occupied by Elm's shopping plaza and S & J Auto Body. The preliminary meeting was intended to get feedback from the village board and did not include a vote. The developer, which also owns the neighboring Arlington Gardens Apartments , has been in talks with neighbors of the proposed complex for several months, seeking to assuage concerns about the project. Though residents of the community seemed friendly toward the idea of redeveloping the struggling properties, they want the project to b...

Council, residents must reject classism | Staff Editorials

Less than a week into Cheyenne’s 151st year, the City Council has another chance Monday night to shape its future. What do we want to be? An open, welcoming community that embraces all people, regardless of socioeconomic status, and invites them to live wherever they choose? Or a city that forces people below a certain income level to live primarily in a certain part of town? The right choice should be obvious: Avoid any hint of discrimination and grant final approval to the rezoning application for a proposed low- and middle- income apartment complex in north Cheyenne. In doing so, our elected leaders would reject the specious arguments of a group of residents who live near a planned 72- unit complex east of Converse Avenue and south of Storey Boulevard. These homeowners maintain that allowing the apartments in this location would decrease their property values and somehow keep their neighborhood from “flourishing.” We understand the basic urge to protect what’s rightfully yours –...

The project was proposed more than a year ago to the Board of Aldermen by Woodco, Inc., out of Billings, Mo. The company secured federal and state tax incentives to take on the project which has made the process take longer. The project will be developed by DowCon, LLC, out of Kansas City. Doff Woodman, of Woodco, addressed the board about the development and noted it will be a top-notch facility. In addition to the apartment units there will also be a community building constructed with space for an exercise room, common areas, kitchen and porches for residents to gather. By KEVIN LANDRIGAN New Hampshire Union Leader August 20. 2017 11:16PM unit apartment complex ."> Elizabeth Voyiatzakis of Lucas Road in Manchester says her rural area is not the right location for a 165- unit apartment complex .  (Allegra Boverman/Union Leader) MANCHESTER — During three City Hall meetings over three months, residents of Lucas and South Mammoth Road desperately and sometimes loudly fought a luxury townhouse apartment rezoning request they maintain would forever change one of the last rural enclaves in the city. “I want somebody with a vested interest in keeping the land nice and this plan just won’t keep it that way,” said Elizabeth Voyiatzakis of 411 Lucas Road . Well-known developer William Socha got his turn at bat last week and made the most of it, filling the Manchester aldermanic chamber with employees, friends and residents of his other complexes. Their message? This development will produce $23 million in construction and generate $1.1 million to...
