(Photo: Bill Tompkins/Special to NorthJersey.com) On Saturday morning residents of a Park Ridge condominium complex were allowed to return to collect belongings after a fire Friday night displaced about 50 people.  No one was injured and the cause of the fire that started about 9 p.m. on North Maple Avenue remained under investigation, Park Ridge Fire Chief Thomas Derienzo said. On Saturday, a  blue tarp covered the collapsed roof of the building where the fire started. The fire started around 6:44 a.m. Thursday, March 9, at Summit Ridge Apartments on Farm Pond Lane near Albemarle Road. A two- alarm apartment building fire in Browne’s Addition drew dozens of firefighters in the sweltering heat just before noon Friday. The first units to arrive at the Greentree Apartments at 1919 W. Pacific Ave. saw heavy smoke and fire coming from the third floor of the building, said Spokane Fire Department Deputy Chief of Operations Mark John . A second alarm was immediately called to get more crews to battle the fire. Mike Varne lives in the basement level of the building and said someone was banging on doors to warn residents of the fire. “I was sitting,” he said. “Somebody knocked on my door and said there’s a fire, get the hell out,” Varne said. The flames were out within 20 minutes and crews cut several holes in the roof. Damage was limited to the third floor, John said. “There’s heavy charring,” he said. Calhoun County Sheriff Department logo (Photo: Provided) WOMAN, DEPUTY INJURED: An inmate and a deputy were injured in the Calhoun County jail when the inmate fell from a second-story tier in an apparent suicide attempt . Sheriff's deputies reported the incident at 9:16 a.m. and said the inmate, 45, climbed over a security railing about 12 feet above the floor below, according to Sheriff Matt Saxton . The inmate was drinking a nontoxic cleaning solution before she let go of the railing and fell backward. Tosha Cummings, a corrections officer, attempted to catch the woman and break her fall and she was knocked back, hitting her head on a table and then the floor. Both women were taken to Bronson Battle Creek for treatment and released. Cummings is expected to return to work in a couple of days, Saxton said. The inmate was returned to the jail and placed on suicide watch. The inmate was arrested Monday on a warrant for failure to appear for a trial. She is charged with a 2015 ass...
