WHIO’s Gabrielle Enright reports Ohio Task Force 1 is awaiting orders from FEMA for rescue assignments. Enright reports the task force may be asked to help with the flooding expected to come in the coming days. UPDATE JULY 17: Management of an apartment complex dealing with on-again, off-again water issues is finally providing an explanation.  Water at the Sandpiper Apartment complex was shut off from Friday morning to Sunday morning .  Sunday water was flowing again, but by Monday morning tenants told 13 Action News it was back off.  "People can't shower. People can't wash dishes," said tenant Brittany Albright .  13 Action News reached out to management Saturday and Sunday and received no response.  On Monday, a manager who would not give his name said over the weekend water was shut down for scheduled repairs. He said a pipe then burst unexpectedly Monday .  13 Action News obtained a copy of an email management sent to tenants which reads in part: "We realize this is is[sic] frustrating for everyone, and Management will compensate residents in some way."  The manager could not elaborate on how they plan to do that.  Lauren Pena with the Legal Aid Center ...

STORRS, CT — Massive construction projects on the main University of Connecticut campus mean students returning to campus this week will be facing a move-in weekend like never before. Some students who arranged early move -in are already on campus, but the bulk of the 12,400 who live in Storrs residence halls will be descending on the campus beginning at 7 a.m. Friday. Freshmen are up first Friday, followed by upperclassmen and transfer students over the weekend. The biggest piece of advice for far from administrators for Friday has been to go old school while driving to the new school. That means plugging the dorm addresses into GPS units is essentially useless because of North Campus closures and traffic restrictions along North Eagleville Road from Route 195 and its side streets . HOUSTON - Houston Police discovered a kush lab inside of an apartment in west Houston early Friday morning . Residents of the Summervale apartments in the 9200 block of Pagewood Lane called the fire department because of an odd chemical smell coming from one of the apartments. Both Houston Fire and Houston Police responded to the scene and, upon entering the apartment, found chemicals and equipment commonly used to make kush. Special Agents with the Texas Department of Public Safety were called in to assist with the investigation. No one was at the apartment at the time, and no arrests have been made. However, Texas DPS has opened an investigation. Kush has been a growing problem in Houston. Last summer, 16 people were taken to the hospital after overdosing on the drug in Hermann Park. Since then, Mayor Sylvester Turner has made getting the drug of the streets a city-wide priority and the Houston Police Department is helping make that happen. A high- speed chase ended when the woman who allegedly fled police last week became pinned under her vehicle after attempting to abandon the vehicle and escape on foot. Chief Deputy Matt Rice said 33-year-old Carmon Michelle Snowden of Damascus was booked in the county jail after being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Conway Regional Medical Center . According to a probable cause affidavit, Snowden led deputies on a high-speed chase through Conway that ended at the Westlake Apartments on Hogan Lane on Aug. 10. She was booked in the county jail early Friday morning . An undercover investigator was driving along Lower Ridge Road when he noticed Snowden, who had a pending warrant in one of his active narcotics investigations , walking in a parking lot. Until Saturday, August 12th, Debra Godfrey liked to sit on her front porch in the afternoons. She’d smoke a Newport and watch what little traffic there was pass by. Godfrey, who is fifty-one, lives in Belmont, a quiet neighborhood on the southeast side of Charlottesville, Virginia. Recycle. Reuse. Reduce. Reclaim. Cheryl Oliver is a true believer. Her husband, Jack, is not quite so sure. For Cheryl, there is no choice because she regards recycling as crucial for the survival of the planet. Jack said he gets it, but doesn’t think a few people can make any real difference. The house divided is a microcosm of communities when it comes to recycling. Cheryl believes everyone should do their part, while Jack believes that since not everyone is doing their part, why should he? “The problem with recycling is that most people don’t do it or won’t do it,” Jack said. “I think it’s mostly due to people being plain lazy.” Jack has a point – recycling takes more effort than just throwing everything into the same trash can. There are people who might recycle but don’t because they simply don’t know how.
