LAS CRUCES, N.M. – —  The brothers accused in a drive-by shooting that killed a 14-year-old during a party in Las Cruces pleaded not guilty. Julio Gutierrez-Barrera, 20, appeared in court Tuesday. He is the alleged shooter in the drive-by where Jocelyn Trujillo-Pierce died. Gutierrez-Barrera was charged with murder, tampering with evidence and conspiracy to commit a felony. He will remain in jail without bond. His brother, 19-year-old Alonzo Barrera, was also charged in the murder. Barrera pleaded not guilty during his arraignment on Monday. Justice James d’Auguste ordered that an independent receiver be appointed to manage two Midtown residential buildings where the landlords allegedly allowed illegal Airbnb rentals to occur. The case, which began when the city sued the landlords in February 2015, has become one of the battlegrounds in a larger war between city enforcement agencies and short- term rental sites like Airbnb. Airbnb, which was recently valued at $31 billion, refuses to release the exact addresses of hosts who break the law by renting their entire apartment for less than 30 days without being present. On Tuesday, a Nebraska judge sentenced Shanna Golyar , 42, of Omaha, to life in prison without parole for the November 2012 murder of Cari Farver, 37. In a bizarre case that took years to unravel, authorities believe Golyar fatally stabbed Farver in November 2012 after she left the apartment of a man Golyar was dating at the same time, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE. LEWISTON — A Brooklyn man was indicted on drug charges this week, accused of selling the fentanyl investigators say has been linked to several drug overdoses in recent months. Nera James, 38, was indicted on a dozen counts, including aggravated drug trafficking , and trafficking in counterfeit drugs. Investigators say James, using the street name "King," sold dope from an apartment at 91 Walnut St., offering the drugs as heroin when it was in fact fentanyl. Police said he also met customers in tenement hallways on Pierce, Walnut, Nichols and other streets in the downtown area. According to court documents, James' fentanyl was linked to so many drug overdoses in the area that some local drug users refused to use it. Two men have been found guilty of a 2013 bank robbery in south suburban Homewood that led to a standoff with authorities. Malcolm Carpenter, 37, of Chicago, was found guilty Thursday in federal court of bank robbery, committing a violent crime with a gun and unlawful transport of firearms, according to FBI spokesman Garrett Croon . His co-defendent, Justin Williams, was found guilty and sentenced to 120 months in prison in September 2016 for bank robbery and committing a violent crime with a machine gun, Croon said. Carpenter and Williams entered the Bank of America branch in the Cherry Creek Plaza at 183rd Street and Governors Highway about 10:30 a.m. Dec. 4, 2013, the FBI said.
