Susan Vela Staff writer @susanvela MACHESNEY PARK  — The curious visited Village Hall today to learn more about the $15 million, three-story assisted-living facility that would be built on the former Machesney Park Mall property . They reviewed floor plans and pictorials of the complex, which has changed a bit since originally presented in spring. The latest plans detail 90 apartments and eight duplex buildings for condos and greenspace for eight more to be built in a future phase of construction. Renate Weber said she may one day seriously consider the development for her and her husband. “It’s beautiful,” she said. “I’m very surprised really. They seem to be thinking of everything. It gives peace of mind. I’ve seen assisted living like that but not in this area. BRITT | A Britt woman has been charged with entering an apartment at Summit House Assisted Living and stealing cash. Randi Jo Chipman , 35, was arrested Aug. 5 on a felony charge of third-degree burglary and a misdemeanor charge of dependent adult abuse . While employed as a caregiver at the Britt assisted living facility , Chipman entered one of the apartments and took cash from a resident's purse while she wasn't there, according to a criminal complaint. The Britt Police Department , with assistance from the resident and staff at the Summit House, set up a surveillance camera on July 13 after the resident reported money had been stolen from her purse in the past. Police say money was marked, photographed and placed in the purse, which was set on a table in the apartment. The police were contacted on July 15 and told money had been taken from the purse. The value of new construction starts in July advanced 6% from the previous month to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $728.1 billion, it was reported by Dodge Data & Analytics. Leading the way was a 26% jump by the nonbuilding construction sector , which reflected an improved level for public works and the start of two massive power plants , located respectively in California and New York.
