UPDATE JULY 17: Management of an apartment complex dealing with on-again, off-again water issues is finally providing an explanation.  Water at the Sandpiper Apartment complex was shut off from Friday morning to Sunday morning .  Sunday water was flowing again, but by Monday morning tenants told 13 Action News it was back off.  "People can't shower. People can't wash dishes," said tenant Brittany Albright .  13 Action News reached out to management Saturday and Sunday and received no response.  On Monday, a manager who would not give his name said over the weekend water was shut down for scheduled repairs. He said a pipe then burst unexpectedly Monday .  13 Action News obtained a copy of an email management sent to tenants which reads in part: "We realize this is is[sic] frustrating for everyone, and Management will compensate residents in some way."  The manager could not elaborate on how they plan to do that.  Lauren Pena with the Legal Aid Center ...

(Photo: Bill Tompkins/Special to NorthJersey.com) On Saturday morning residents of a Park Ridge condominium complex were allowed to return to collect belongings after a fire Friday night displaced about 50 people.  No one was injured and the cause of the fire that started about 9 p.m. on North Maple Avenue remained under investigation, Park Ridge Fire Chief Thomas Derienzo said. On Saturday, a  blue tarp covered the collapsed roof of the building where the fire started. THREE OAKS, Mich. (WNDU) - UPDATE People who escaped an apartment fire in Three Oaks are going back to save any belongings they can carry. 14 families had to evacuate as Hidden Harbor Villas caught fire early Saturday morning . A Michigan State Police fire investigator says the fire started in a vacant apartment on the second floor near the utility closet but he says it's not suspicious and he doesn't believe it was arson. That's not much comfort to the families, only two of whom had renters insurance. Melissa Lawson, one of those affected, said, "We were running to just get out the door. She had some clothes in the diaper bag, but she was just in her diaper and we grabbed a blanket. Nobody had shoes, no one. " Peter Trigg, another person affected, said, "Honestly, I'm not worried about what I can save. I thought everything was a loss, and everything I can find is just a blessing. A 61-year-old man died after a fire was reported at the Manhattan Apartments on Saturday morning , authorities said. An alarm sounded in one of the apartments at about 7:50 a.m. Saturday, according to information from the Oak Ridge Fire Department that was provided by City of Oak Ridge spokesperson Sarah Self. Oak Ridge Police Department officers found heavy smoke inside the apartment when they arrived Saturday morning , and the Oak Ridge Fire Department was dispatched. Nearby residents were evacuated while  firefighters made entry to the apartment and extinguished the fire. A man was found inside, the city said. “Crews removed the victim and immediately began life -saving measures,” the ORFD said. “The victim was then transported by Anderson County EMS to Methodist Medical Center , where he was pronounced dead.” The man has been identified as Michael McAlister, age 61, of Oak Ridge. PLEASANT, MI -- Kayakers paddled thhrough the parking lot of Timber Creek Apartments in Mount Pleasant Friday , June 23, as residents there scrambled to seek refuge from flash-flood waters for the night at an American Red Cross shelter . "There were people kayaking in the parking lot (yesterday)," said Joe Allen, a resident at Timber Creek. Timber Creek neighbors and people from Park Place Apartments were the largest group Saturday morning , June 24, at the shelter in Mount Pleasant High School . They were forced from their homes after a deluge of 7 inches of rain or more fell overnight Thursday and Friday on parts of Isabella and Midland counties. The rain ran off the already saturated ground, causing the flash flooding . Neighborhoods, parks and roads were covered with water. Police charged 51-year-old Brian M. Korzeniewski just hours after the prone body of Michael A. Bull was discovered between two parked sedans in the 500 block of East Sixth Street . Recycle. Reuse. Reduce. Reclaim. Cheryl Oliver is a true believer. Her husband, Jack, is not quite so sure. For Cheryl, there is no choice because she regards recycling as crucial for the survival of the planet. Jack said he gets it, but doesn’t think a few people can make any real difference. The house divided is a microcosm of communities when it comes to recycling. Cheryl believes everyone should do their part, while Jack believes that since not everyone is doing their part, why should he? “The problem with recycling is that most people don’t do it or won’t do it,” Jack said. “I think it’s mostly due to people being plain lazy.” Jack has a point – recycling takes more effort than just throwing everything into the same trash can. There are people who might recycle but don’t because they simply don’t know how. Until Saturday, August 12th, Debra Godfrey liked to sit on her front porch in the afternoons. She’d smoke a Newport and watch what little traffic there was pass by. Godfrey, who is fifty-one, lives in Belmont, a quiet neighborhood on the southeast side of Charlottesville, Virginia.
