Man accused of attacking, confining woman

HUNTINGBURG — The Huntingburg Police Department took a man into custody Thursday evening for allegedly attacking and confining a woman.

Officers were called at 7:30 p.m. to the Oak Ridge Apartments, 109 E. 17th St., to speak with a female victim who was reporting an incident alleged to have just occurred at the 609 N. Washington St. residence of 24-year-old Andrew S. Burch.

The victim told police she had just come from Burch’s home where she alleged was battered and strangled. She also alleged Burch had attempted to sexually batter her. She reported being stopped from leaving the residence several times, according to police.

Police reported that Burch saw officers driving through the Oak Ridge lot and he fled from that area on foot. He was stopped in a church parking lot in the 1600 block of Chestnut Street and was taken into custody without further incident.

Authorities booked Burch into the Dubois County Security Center at 9:01 p.m. on preliminary charges that included a Level 5 felony count of criminal confinement with bodily injury, Level 6 felony counts of strangulation and attempted sexual battery and a misdemeanor count of battery with bodily injury.
