The Latest: Iraq says victory over IS in Tal Afar is near

GREENVILLE, SC (WSPA)–Three families are out of their homes after an apartment fire in Greenville.

Parker Fire District Chief Steve Alverson says the department responded to the fire on Hampton Avenue Extension around 4:30 a.m. Thursday.

Chief Alverson said no one was hurt in the fire that damaged at least two apartment units and displaced three families.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Alverson said a woman in one of the apartments was awakened by a smoke alarm.

He stressed the importance of smoke alarms, as well as rental insurance.

Alverson said three families impacted by the fire lost their possessions and said renters need their own rental insurance to cover their losses.

The Red Cross is helping the families whose homes were damaged in this morning’s apartment fire.
