Crime: Gun stolen from unlocked car; other break-ins on same street

A gun was stolen from an unlocked vehicle overnight Saturday, and two other vehicle break-ins were reported along the same street, according to Greenville Police Department case reports.

A Greenville man reported Sunday that his vehicle had been broken into, and a Springfield Armory XDM .40 caliber handgun, valued at $500, and two handgun magazines with 26 .40 caliber rounds, valued at $575, were stolen. The theft reportedly occurred between 8:30 p.m. on Saturday and 6 a.m. on Sunday in the 2900 block of Cedar Creek Road.

Police spokeswoman Kristen Hunter said the doors were left unlocked. The case remains under investigation.

Officers are looking into whether the case might be linked to two other vehicle break-ins that occurred during the weekend on the same street, according to Hunter. The other two cases also occurred in the 1900 block of Cedar Creek.

Nothing was stolen and there was no damage to the vehicle in an incident that occurred between 11 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. on Sunday, according to Hunter. The car was left unlocked, and it appeared someone had gone through it.

Cash was stolen out of the center console of another vehicle in the same block between 11 p.m. on Saturday and 9:43 a.m. on Sunday, Hunter said. The victim reported that he had locked the vehicle, but Hunter said there were no signs of forced entry.

A case report indicates that the 2007 Isuzu SUV sustained $100 in damages.

Man shot from inside vehicle

A 20-year-old Greenville man was shot from inside a moving vehicle on Sunday, according to police.

Jamel Kwame Hines, of 900 Spring Forest Road, sustained serious injuries in the incident, a case report indicates. Police said his injuries are not life-threatening.

The incident reportedly occurred in the area of West Fifth Street and South Memorial Drive between 2 a.m. and 4:28 a.m., the report indicates.

Police spokeswoman Kristen Hunter said the case remains under investigation, but it appears to have been an accidental shooting.
