Patrolling Algiers apartments, officers spot man carrying stolen AK-47: NOPD

A 27-year-old man faces gun charges after officers conducting a foot patrol at an Algiers apartment complex say they spotted him walking down a set of stairs, carrying a stolen AK-47 assault-style rifle in plain view, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

Kendrick Woolridge was seen with the rifle about 1:15 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 12) by officers patrolling the Garden Oaks apartments, at 3300 Garden Oaks Drive, police said.

Investigators learned the weapon had been reported stolen from Jefferson Parish.

Woolridge was booked into the Orleans Justice Center jail Saturday with various gun charges, including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a stolen firearm. He was also booked with a parole violation.

Monday night, Woolridge remained in jail in lieu of a $35,000 bond, according to jail records.

Anyone with additional information on Kendrick Woolridge is asked to call any Fourth District detective at 504-658-6040 or submit an anonymous tip to Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 or toll-free 1-877-903-STOP.
