Son Arrested For Murder Of Elderly Mother In Northeast DC

WASHINGTON, DC — A man has been arrested for murdering his 81-year-old mother in her Northeast Washington apartment Saturday, police said.

At about 10:45 p.m. Saturday, police responded to the 5200 block of 4th Street, NE., for the report of a domestic violence assault.

Responding officers located an adult female — later identified as Anne Alredia Cook of Northeast — suffering from multiple sharp and blunt force injuries, police said.

Cook was taken to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The victim's son — Derek Norman Cook, 51, of Northeast DC — was arrested and charged Sunday with first degree murder while armed, police said.
