Sacramento faces housing crisis, needs thousands of housing units

The city of Sacramento is in a housing crunch. Rents are on the rise while the vacancy rate only 2 percent.

Council member Jeff Harris said the housing crisis is so great that tens of thousands of housing units are needed across the city.

Fortunately, construction is now underway for a new 248-unit apartment complex in the Natomas area.

The apartments will ultimately house some 400 people who are paying market rent rate of $1,500 a month.
