New Orleans East apartment owner evicting 100 families: report

About 100 families in a dilapidated New Orleans East apartment complex plagued by violent crime are being evicted next month, WWL-TV reported Monday (Aug. 21).

Residents of the complex at 6000 Chef Menteur Highway said they've had to deal with shootings and poor living conditions, including mold infestation, trash and a collapsed ceiling, according to the report. The apartment complex was foreclosed on but didn't sell at an auction, and owner Gulf Coast Bank is now telling current residents to leave by Sept. 9, the report says.
