Fire damages Boulder Creek apartment

BURTON, Michigan -- An apartment in the Boulder Creek Apartments complex was damaged about 7:30 p.m. Sunday by a fire that started in the kitchen.

Burton Deputy Fire Chief Ken Gould said a resident was cooking when a pan caught on fire. The complex is locatedat 5000 Boulder Drive, north of Maple Avenue and west of I-475.

The fire spread to the living room when the woman tried unsuccessfully to take the pan outside.

The Burton Fire Department put the fire out quickly. The fire was contained to just one apartment, Gould said. There were no injuries.

He said the family of five will be displaced from their apartment.

Others also will be displaced because of water damage.

Gould credited the apartment's sprinkler system for helping to put out the fire.
