alexandra-- a two-hour police stand-off ends peacefully tonight... the man in the middle surrenders to sheriff's deputies.with time on their side... cops use caution to control the situation. good evening, i'm alexandra johnson. brad-- hello, i'm brad byrd. police were called to copper creek apartments this afternoon on evansville's west side.they had to wait hours for a resolution. eyewitness news stuart hammer was there as it happened.stuart--the call came in after two o'clock today... of suspicious circumstances. police say a maintenance worker overheard a man making threatening comments.the vanderburgh county sheriff's office says the man isn't facing criminal charges at this time... and they aren't identifying him. deputies say the man barricaded himself in his apartment with multiple hand guns... rifles... and a bullet proof vest.they say he was upset with business partners. no one was hurt... but it kept people out of their apartments for hours.(don qualls)"well, til all the police officers move and says we can go home... i guess until they get in and get him or whatever, something happens,"(beau grant)"i went through the -- they had just one spot blocked off because i got here right when it started, and then they told me to turn around, there was an armed gunman and so i turned around and hung out here."stuart--sheriff's deputies say it's always better to use an abundance of caution in these types of situations.time is on their side... and it's just a waiting game.copper creek apartments opened up again around five o'clock.again -- nobody hurt... so it was a good ending.brad-- thank you, stuart. 3
