Study: Arsenic poisoning a risk for 50M in Pakistan

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – A South Carolina high school student charged after filming a deputy tossing another student across a classroom is suing the school district and the sheriff’s department.

Attorneys for Niya Kenny filed the lawsuit Tuesday accusing the Richland County Sheriff’s Department and the Richland Two School District of false arrest, defamation and negligent supervision.

Kenny was charged with disturbing schools after she tried to intervene in the October 2015 incident. The student tossed from her chair by Deputy Ben Fields also was charged with disturbing schools.

Charges against both were dropped, and Fields was fired. State and federal prosecutors have declined to prosecute Fields.

Kenny’s lawsuit says she was arrested after she “protested the assault” of the other student and was wrongly expelled.

A Felton woman has become the second victim of a deadly fire that swept the Woodcrest Arms apartment complex June 6 . Jeff Brown, News Editor A second victim of the June 6 fire at Woodcrest Arms apartment complex has died. Christina Lynn Taylor , 33, of Cedar Grove Church Road , Felton, died the afternoon of June 7 while at Crozier Chester Burn Center , Chester, Pa., said Dover Police Capt . Tim Stump. Taylor and her boyfriend had been at the apartments to help a relative move, Stump said. The boyfriend, whose name was not released, was still at the burn center, where he had been taken with life-threatening injuries after the fire. Stump also identified the first victim of the blaze as Jacqueline Wuest, 61. Wuest’s body was found in her third- floor apartment during an initial sweep of the building.
