Indianapolis Fire Department Crews Battle Two Early Morning Fires

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Indianapolis Fire Department crews had a busy Thursday morning fighting two fires, one at an East Washington Street apartment and the other at a Bates Street residence , according to Indianapolis Fire Department Battalion Chief Rita Reith . Reith said IFD crews were dispatched just before 2 a.m. and arrived to 5824 E. Washington Street to light smoke showing on the third floor, from a vacant apartment #26. Reith said 16 IFD units were dispatched, getting the flames was under control at 2:01 a.m. According to a release, there were no injuries, however damage is estimated at $16,000. A cause is being investigated by IFD and Indianapolis Metro Police Fire Investigations . 14 IFD units were later dispatched to a single- story house fire at 1510 Bates Street , at 7:01 a.m. and was under control just after 7:30 a.m., Reith reports.
