With his 2010 Nissan Altima filled to the max with football players, N.C. Central sophomore offensive lineman Nick Leverett could barely make it out of the driveway before he heard metal from the car scraping the ground. That’s what 1,400 pounds of bodies will do to a ride. Week after week this summer, usually on Wednesdays when they didn’t have workouts, N.C. Central’s 14 offensive linemen – who weigh about 260 pounds or more each and call themselves the Hot Boys, would pile into the cars of left tackle Leverett , redshirt junior center Steven Perry or junior right tackle Marley Conley , and make their way to Hibachi Grill & Supreme Buffet, ready to eat and bond. The Austin Film Festival , set to take place October 26-November 2, has announced the first 10 titles scheduled to screen during its 2017 edition, its 24th. Included among the selected works are nine films and one television episode: the season finale of HBO’s The Deuce , created by David Simon and George Pelecanos, who will be in attendance. The Deuce Other announced titles include Permanent with Rainn Wilson and Patricia Arquette, Please Stand By with Dakota Fanning and Toni Collete, and 24 Hours to Live with Ethan Hawke and Liam Cunningham. Local films and talent will also be in the spotlight. The $13. 5 million Dillard project is scheduled to break ground in October and be completed in spring 2019, Deb Wendel-Daub, a Kilbourne project manager , said Wednesday, Aug. 23. The construction site is now a parking lot owned by the Dillard family but had once been home to row houses and a lumberyard, according to Kilbourne. Like many parking lots, it's not appealing to pedestrians and the new building is intended to change that. The Renaissance Zone Authority on Wednesday recommended tax exemptions for the project worth $967,000 over five years. After the incentives expire, Kilbourne estimates it would pay $202,000 a year in property taxes. The parking lot now pays $2,400 a year. Because the area is also part of a tax- increment financing district paying for a city- owned parking ramp that the developer finished in June, the taxes would go towards the ramp. A 5-year-old boy and his grandfather sat down together to watch a game. Benson Gathany moved into his first dorm room at University of Georgia’s Boggs Hall on Aug. 6 with every intention of moving out as soon as possible. This freshman history major from Atlanta is currently in supplementary housing at Boggs, living in a study room turned dorm room with three other roommates. Gathany picked his housing assignment with freshmen criminal justice major Anthony Belvedere in late May. The two freshmen went onto the UGA Housing website and chose what they thought was a typical dorm in Boggs since it had the same floor plan as the others. “This room number came up as a normal, cookie- cutter Boggs room ,” Belvedere said. “We chose it completely randomly. There were other vacancies.” About a month after they chose the dorm, housing emailed them their other roommates’ names, which is when they realized they would be in supplementary housing. “If we had looked at the fine print, it showed that there were four slots for that room,” Gathany said. “So we couldn’t ...
