Share This Humor Article About Tiny Houses to Remind Your Friends That You’re an Affluent Liberal Urbanite

We make no presumptions about why you’re seeking our help today: maybe you’re here because you accidentally followed Mike Pence on Twitter for a few minutes and you’re feeling unclean. Maybe your uncle Ralph shared a misspelled update on your Facebook wall last week warning about contamination at a fishing hole back home in Indiana and a couple of your friends liked it. Maybe you’re just feeling generally insecure about your life ever since you found out that the exposed brick in your new apartment wasn’t original to the building. Whatever the circumstances, you’re here because you’re an urban professional below forty with an income north of six figures and a STOP KEYSTONE XL bumper sticker on your rarely-used road bike, you’re insecure about your social status, and you want to remind your family, friend, and coworkers of your place in the world. With that in mind, may we humbly suggest that you use social media to share a short, wryly funny humor piece from a respected national...

First Apartment Essentials {Plus a First Apartment Checklist}

July 5, 2016 By Tara · Disclosure: This Post May Contain Affiliate Links. {I may be compensated if you make a purchase after clicking on my links.} Getting prepared for a first apartment has been on my mind a lot over the past year. In particular, I’ve been thinking about essentials someone would need for their first home. Last May, my son moved out at the age of 21. He moved in with a friend who already had a house. Logan packed all his stuff in boxes and drove from Ohio to Texas toward his first taste of independence. Because his friend already lived in the house, Logan didn’t need any furniture. A few months later, Logan’s friend got engaged and was set to marry after the first of the year. Now, Logan was on the hunt for an apartment. Aside from the financial aspect of signing a lease and a rental agreement, I was worried that he’d now have to furnish a place of his own. Robert St. John's top 10 New Orleans restaurants

CLOSE Robert St. John has learned a lot in the restaurant business. Such as: Never store butane in an oven. Robert St. John/Special to The Clarion-Ledger Wagyu Beef with long grain rice , cashew, okra, benne seeds at Coquette. (Photo: Special to The Clarion-Ledger) The following is the third in a four-installment summer- column series covering my top 10 dining experiences for breakfast, lunch, dinner and brunch in New Orleans. There are a few items to note: This list purely subjective . Everyone has varying tastes and preferences. This is not a ranking of overall quality from a critical/review standpoint. This is my personal list. These are my personal favorites. Everyone has personal connections to restaurants. These happen to be mine. According to the New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau, there are more than 1,400 restaurants operating in New Orleans today. That’s an impressive number for a city with a population of only 390,000. There are obviously hundreds of restaurants I...

General Motors Learns The Rental Business: Insider Q&A

DETROIT, MI — General Motors Co. started its car-sharing service, Maven, just over a year ago, placing Chevrolets and Cadillacs in New York apartment buildings for occupants to rent. Since then, the service has grown exponentially. Maven is still working with apartment dwellers, but it is also offering hourly and daily rental cars in 17 North American cities . It also offers Maven Gig , a service that lets people rent cars to do odd jobs, like ride-hailing for Lyft or delivering food for GrubHub. Maven Gig expanded into Los Angeles earlier this month; it's coming to Boston, Phoenix, Washington, Baltimore and Detroit this fall. Maven is now moving onto college campuses. This week, it became the exclusive car-share provider to the University of Southern California. Students will be able to rent vehicles for $5 per hour, a lower rate than Maven's usual starting price of $8. College administrators will have their own dedicated vehicle to reserve. Houston’s Bullet Train Station Should Be in Downtown, Not Northwest Mall – Commentary

Image
Commentary by Ralph Bivins, Editor of Realty News Report . HOUSTON – (Commentary by Ralph Bivins) Houston is about to make a huge mistake with the development of its high-speed train to north Texas. The proposed Texas Central 200 mph rail line that will run from Houston to Dallas has a lot of good things about it. The train will be good for transit, good for the economy and it prepares Houston for the years ahead when the metro area’s population hits 10 million . It’s the train’s terminal location that’s a mistake. The memorandum of understanding, signed Thursday by Mayor Sylvester Turner and Tim Keith, president of Texas Central Partners , reveals that the train’s terminus station will probably be located at the old Northwest Mall property . The close-in mall site would probably be an excellent location for certain kinds of redevelopment, but it’s a questionable place for a transportation hub. If you haven’t shopped at Northwest Mall lately – and not many people have – it’s locate...
