By Mike Smollins Village of Lynbrook officials are mulling a proposal by development company Mill Creek Residential to build a luxury apartment complex on Rocklyn Avenue, near Merrick Road. Hot Skates, Fun Station USA and Hi Tech Security now occupy the three-acre site. “Today’s apartment residents are craving a downtown living experience along with convenient access to a mix of urban and suburban lifestyle experiences ,” Russell Tepper, a senior managing director at MCR, wrote in an email to the Herald. “Lynbrook’s new residential community would serve all types of residents … so that they may take advantage of the luxuries of suburban living , without sacrificing the trappings of an urban, modern lifestyle.” MCR acquires and operates high- end rental communities across the country, and has built complexes in West Hempstead, Mineola, Yonkers, Westchester County and New Jersey. A residential community with 250 town homes and 458 single-family houses is slated for Howell Branch Road in south Seminole County . Meritage Homes Corporation bought more than 200 acres on Howell Branch Road and east of Semoran Boulevard to develop a community being called Hawk’s Crest. The purchase price was about $40 million, property records show . New homes will have 1,600 to 5,200 square feet with three to six bedrooms. As Towson University students prepare to head back to campus this week, university officials say complaints of loud, unruly gatherings near the campus are down by as much as 50 percent in some neighborhoods since the Baltimore County Council passed an ordinance to deter problem behavior . After numerous neighborhood complaints of public urination, property damage and excessive noise in residential neighborhoods, the council passed the Social Host–Unruly Social Gatherings ordinance in January 2016 to target problem landlords and renters through their pocketbooks. The two-year pilot, which was introduced by County Councilman David Marks , will expire in January. With a full school year having passed since the enactment of the ordinance, neighbors, Towson University officials and county police officials say it is working to curb problem behavior . Mill Creek Residential, a national apartment community operator , recently donated more than 200 household items to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore . The company donated furniture , cabinets, countertops and appliances; including refrigerators, stoves, microwaves and dishwashers from 40 apartments at an upscale property. "It takes donations from our community to make the Habitat Restore successful ," said Nancy Daly, ReStore co-chairwoman.
