The Sedalia Rental Inspection Committee continued to nail down details of the inspector training program during Wednesday night’s meeting. The committee has spent the last several meetings deciding the details of the city offering a certification program. The idea is to have a city- sponsored class offered to citizens wanting to become a rental inspector . Those who complete the course would be included on an approved list given to landlords. Landlords would choose their own inspector from the list to complete the proposed rental inspections . Daniel Shaw, of the Sedalia Fire Department , has been leading the discussions on the inspector certification program , as he will most likely be conducting the course. Frank Pollock spends his days inspecting gas pumps making sure you are not getting ripped off. In more recent times as the Chief Inspector for the Allegheny County Bureau of Weights and Measures he’s not just looking at gas quantities . “We look for skimmers every day when we look at gas pumps,” Pollock says. Skimmers have become the most dominant tool in the credit card thieves ’ tool bag. Some attach as overlays over the gas pump, ATM, or video rental box , intercepting your information as you swipe. Pollock says check for that type of skimmer by grabbing the slot with your fingers and “shake it a little bit make sure it’s straight.
