Carl Larson moved from a home in Hebron to his two-bedroom apartment at Autumn Chase 10 years ago where he continues to enjoy his retirement. Autumn Chase was his first stop while on his apartment hunt and he continued comparison shopping in Vernon and Manchester. He returned to Autumn Chase when he could not find anything as attractive. "I really liked the layout of the facility here, and as I looked at other apartments, I liked it more and more," says Larson. Autumn Chase apartment buildings are set back a comfortable distance from West Road in Ellington and are buffered by an expansive green space that includes a pond with a fountain and a small wetland lined with cattails. The complex includes several more ponds, a wel...

Lee Everett, managing consultant at research firm CoStar Portfolio Strategy , might be able to provide some clarity. Two product types – active adult communities and continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs – will be the winners in the seniors housing race both in the short and the long term, Everett says. Everett and his CoStar colleagues are bullish about active adult communities , which are age-restricted developments that offer an independent lifestyle and relatively maintenance-free housing. Growth in this segment is "just around the corner," with more baby boomers getting older and seeking alternatives to traditional homes and apartments. "We're looking at a period where there's going to be a lot of fast and explosive growth in active a...

High-end rentals, dog park included, going up near Oakbrook Terrace

A Northfield-based company has broken ground on a project that will bring 315 high-end apartments to a stalled mixed-use development near Oakbrook Terrace. Interforum Holdings will start construction of its Lakeside Village of Oak Brook luxury apartments as soon as the weather permits. The 500,000-square-foot, four-story building will be on roughly 6 acres along Royce Boulevard . "We went into the area to develop a project because we see a serious lack of luxury, Class A rental communities in the area," said Alex Zdanov, CEO of Interforum Holdings. "A current trend right now is for people to rent." Zdanov said Lakeside Village will provide a rental option for executives and other professionals working in Oak Brook, Oakbrook Terrace and other nearby communities. The apartment building will be in the Oak Brook Lakes development , which has 82 undeveloped acres off Butterfield Road, just east of where it splits from 22nd Street. Offic...
