Weekend Apartment Fire Displaces Two Families

LAS VEGAS (KXNT) – Las Vegas Fire and Rescue said five adults and three children from two separate apartments are being helped by the American Red Cross after fire ripped through their apartment. Las Vegas firefighters responded to the Green Tree Apartments , 517 N. 28th Street, on Sunday around 2:35 p.m., after fire dispatchers received calls that a fire was burning in the yard behind the apartment. When firefighters arrived, they found that the outside fire had spread to the two story wood frame/stucco apartment building. Other firefighters arrived within minutes and found the fire had spread to an upstairs apartment . they had the fire under control in just a few minutes. The fire was contained to the one apartment. One bedroom was gutter, and the next bedroom had heavy heat and smoke damage. There was minor damage to the apartment next door enough that the people that lived there will be displaced. OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Overland Park firefighters battled a two- alarm apartment fire near 119th Street and Switzer Road. Firefighters were called to the Highland Ridge Apartments in the 11800 block of Perry Street just before 11 a.m. Friday. Advertisement Smoke and fire were showing when fire crews arrived at the scene. Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control. No injuries were reported. Firefighters rescued one dog, but another dog was found dead in the building. Eight units in the building were damaged. The Red Cross is helping those displaced. Fire investigators said the fire started in a first- floor apartment , but the cause has not yet been determined.

Woman saves child from burning building

HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) - Neighbors are hailing a Hartford woman as a hero after she ran into a burning building to save an 8-year-old girl. The fire broke out at an apartment building on Hillside Avenue on Thursday, around 6 p.m. There was a child inside the building, and one neighbor risked her own life to try to make a dramatic rescue. “When I saw the fire, I threw my phone, I threw everything I had and I just ran upstairs to try to save people,” said Magda Quinones Rivera , who said she knew her friend’s 8-year-old daughter Jenelli Thomas was inside the building. “We tried breaking the door open and make sure there were no people but the fire was already strong, we kicked the door, it was very strong,” Rivera said. She eventually got inside and found Thomas in the hallway, surrounded by smoke, and scooped her up in her arms. Apartment fire Monday was intentionally set

Fire investigators said that a Monday night fire at a Vancouver apartment building was unrelated to a fire at the same complex earlier this month. Vancouver firefighters were sent to the Madison Park Apartments , 12901 N.E. 28th St., just before 8 p.m. Monday and crews arrived to find flames coming from a second-story window. Within about five minutes, firefighters snaked a hose to the apartment and knocked down the blaze, which was burning in a single room. Investigators have since determined that the fire, which caused an estimated $17,500 in damage to structure and contents, was intentionally set , Vancouver Fire Marshal Heidi Scarpelli said. She wouldn’t divulge information about how the fire started so as to not compromise the investigation. No arrests have been made, but investigators are actively pursuing leads , Scarpelli said. Flash flooding hits South County apartment complex, forcing some evacuations

AFFTON, MO  (KPLR) – Heavy rains, a flooding creek and blocked drains apparently all combined to cause big problems at an apartment complex near the River Des Peres Sunday afternoon . When Affton firefighters arrived , flood waters around the Cedar Creek Lodge Apartment Complex was seven feet deep.   Brijett Irons lives in the Cedar Creek Lodge Apartments says:  I’m very angry, very, very, angry I was down on the floor in tears that type of angry.” Heavy rains pounded the area, 24 apartments went under.  One man said, “It was incredible it was crazy.” Officials estimated that some 20 cars were flooded and the insides of the vehicles are a smelly muddy mess .  Cambria Williams’s car was flooded, “Like a lose- lose situation for me no insurance and renters insurance is not going to cover it for me.” Fire crews brought in boats to rescue residents; no one was injured during the operation.  However, after it was all over and the water dropped the muddy ground apparently caused one...

Two-alarm Norfolk apartment fire displaces 17

NORFOLK, Va. – Seventeen people have been displaced after a two-alarm fire at an apartment complex in the 7100 block of Sewells Point Road Friday . The fire was reported at 11:12 a.m. and crews with the Norfolk Fire- Rescue arrived approximately four minutes later. An adult female occupant inside the apartment smelled smoke and self-evacuated along with her five-year-old grandson. She notified neighbors of the fire as she evacuated. Engine Company- 14 reported heavy smoke visible from the second floor of the two- story apartment building . Crews advanced a fire hose inside the building for an interior fire attack and to conduct a primary search of the apartment. Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and high heat conditions as they attempted to suppress the fire. A second alarm was called due to the magnitude of the fire and the size of the building. PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A fast-moving blaze at a Philadelphia apartment complex overnight has left a firefighter and two residents injured. Fire Capt. William Dixon says the firefighter is in stable condition, but had no additional information on the injuries. The two residents were taken to a hospital and one was listed in critical condition. The other person's condition wasn't available. The fire was reported just before 12:30 a.m. Tuesday in northeast Philadelphia . Firefighters arrived to find flames shooting out of a second-floor window of the three-story complex. It was brought under control about 45 minutes later. About 50 residents were evacuated. Firefighters battle northwest side apartment fire

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Northwest Fire was on the scene of an apartment fire Monday at 7300 N Mona Lisa. According to Fire Captain Brian Keeley , crews arrived on the scene just before 2:30 p.m. and found the first floor of the apartment heavily involved in flames. Crews were able to put out the fire before it spread to other units. Firefighters say the apartment directly above suffered minor smoke damage . One resident was medically evaluated but declined to be transported to the hospital. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

Cause of Penniman Park apartment fire under investigation

A top- floor apartment fire Monday afternoon in Elkridge ended after 65 firefighters and paramedics from Howard, Baltimore and Anne Arundel counties extinguished the blaze within 15 minutes. First responders were called to the 6200 block of Greenfield Road around noon, Howard fire officials said, where they found flames engulfing a fourth-floor balcony at the Penniman Park apartments . The fire extended from the apartment's exterior into its interior and roof, but was under control by 12:15 p.m. Other apartments were affected by residual smoke; however, fire officials said residents evacuated the building before they arrived. No resident or firefighter injuries were reported. Fire officials said the sprinkler head between the balcony and apartment's living area was activated and limited the damage. Howard County fire department 's Office of the Fire Marshal is investigating the origin and cause of Monday's fire.

Man dies after fire at Manhattan Apartments

A 61-year-old man died after a fire was reported at the Manhattan Apartments on Saturday morning , authorities said. An alarm sounded in one of the apartments at about 7:50 a.m. Saturday, according to information from the Oak Ridge Fire Department that was provided by City of Oak Ridge spokesperson Sarah Self. Oak Ridge Police Department officers found heavy smoke inside the apartment when they arrived Saturday morning , and the Oak Ridge Fire Department was dispatched. Nearby residents were evacuated while  firefighters made entry to the apartment and extinguished the fire. A man was found inside, the city said. “Crews removed the victim and immediately began life -saving measures,” the ORFD said. “The victim was then transported by Anderson County EMS to Methodist Medical Center , where he was pronounced dead.” The man has been identified as Michael McAlister, age 61, of Oak Ridge. 5-alarm fire breaks out at Riverside apartment building

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (KABC) -- Crews battled a five-alarm fire at an abandoned apartment building in Riverside on Sunday. The fire broke out in a second- story apartment at the Monte Vista Terrace apartments , located in the 2400 block of Market Street around 4:30 p.m., fire officials said. The unoccupied building is listed as a senior living facility . When firefighters first arrived, they say they attempted to fight the flames from the inside, but were quickly forced to evacuate as the fire grew. The fire was upgraded from a four-alarm fire to a five alarm fire in the 9 p.m. hour. By 11 p.m., crews had the flames under control. They were expected to remain on scene through the night. Man arrested, accused of starting Pueblo apartment fire

A man suspected of first-degree arson for allegedly starting a fire in his Belmont apartment unit earlier this month was arrested on a warrant Sunday night following his release from the hospital after he was treated for injuries he sustained in that blaze. Around 9:30 p.m. Aug. 6, the Pueblo Fire Department was dispatched to a fire at the Casa Del Sol Apartments on the 1700 block of Constitution Road and arrived to find heavy smoke coming from a unit. Upon entering the apartment the smoke was emanating from, fire personnel discovered that there were two separate and distinct fires inside , according to an arrest affidavit. One of the fires was located near the center of the living room near a pile of materials, and the other was in the bathroom. There were three points of origin for the fires, police said.
