A Kentucky development group is planning a 180- unit affordable apartment complex in north Baton Rouge on the corner of Airline Highway and Plank Road. LDG Development , which specializes in affordable housing , is still in the planning stages for the project, which is named Commodore Pointe . The Baton Rouge North Economic Development District announced the project at its meeting last night. A spokeswoman for the firm declined to comment, but LDG is not new to Baton Rouge. The firm previously developed the $ 24 million Mallard Crossing apartment complex on Greenwell Springs Road in 2012, as well as the Woodcrest Apartments, an $ 8 million development completed in 2013 on North Lobdell Boulevard . The developer is also set to cut the ribbon on the Port Royal Apartments , another affordable housing complex on Airline Highway, on May 10. A joint venture of Albuquerque’s Titan Development and Phoenix- based Alliance Residential , Broadstone Cottonwood will be built on 13.3 now-vacant acres on the west side of N.M. 528. It will consist of 24 mostly two- and three-story buildings with a total of 325,433 square feet of space, which includes rental garages . The Northpointe Village shopping center could get a 300- unit apartment complex , on a vacant parcel with rental appeal for employees of Mettler Toledo. The Swiss- manufacturer broke ground in January on a 250,000-square-foot plant, within Northpointe. The plant is expected to bring about 500 jobs into Pasco County, with about 185 of them being new jobs for the company. Northpointe Village is a walkable ‘main street’ village concept with offices and shops, off State Road 54 at Suncoast Parkway. Apartments would add a residential component to the development. AT least two projects nestled in a mature residential precinct in District 9 near Somerset are being run as serviced apartments - despite not having the regulatory approval to do so - and a third one is opening. Oxley Thanksgiving Residence , a freehold condominium at 328 River Valley Road owned by Chinese temple Poh Ern Shih , and St Thomas Lodge , which also sits on freehold land at 32 St Thomas Walk , are listed for short-term stay on the website of accommodation service provider Atas Residence . The Business Times' visit to these projects confirmed that they are being run as serviced apartments. Developer Paul Petrovich has filed a claim with the city of Sacramento saying he suffered embarrassment , emotional distress and harm to his reputation when it was revealed that the city manager called him mentally ill in a text message to a councilman. The claim is the third legal action Petrovich has taken against Sacramento since the city refused in 2015 to grant him a permit to build a Safeway gas station in his Crocker Village development adjacent to the Curtis Park neighborhood . In two ongoing lawsuits, Petrovich contends City Council members colluded against him before the vote to deny him the station permit. An October hearing has been set on the main lawsuit. The new claim, filed with the city clerk, involves a text message that since- retired City Manager John Shirey sent to Councilman Jay Schenirer a few weeks before the council vote. Claudia Angulo and her four children live in Orange Cove, California, a corner of Fresno County known for its citrus. She says when planes fly over the orange grove next to their apartment building and spray pesticides on the trees, she and her family experience headaches , exhaustion and difficulty breathing. But Angulo is concerned about an even more serious health problem in her 11-year-old son Isaac. When she was pregnant with him, she worked at a packing house, handling freshly picked citrus . After Isaac was born, Angulo says she noticed his development seemed slow and strange. “I saw that he didn’t play the same as other kids,” she says. “He didn’t learn the same.” She says his behavior was aggressive and antisocial. DETROIT, MI — General Motors Co. started its car-sharing service, Maven, just over a year ago, placing Chevrolets and Cadillacs in New York apartment buildings for occupants to rent. Since then, the service has grown exponentially. Maven is still working with apartment dwellers, but it is also offering hourly and daily rental cars in 17 North American cities . It also offers Maven Gig , a service that lets people rent cars to do odd jobs, like ride-hailing for Lyft or delivering food for GrubHub. Maven Gig expanded into Los Angeles earlier this month; it's coming to Boston, Phoenix, Washington, Baltimore and Detroit this fall. Maven is now moving onto college campuses. This week, it became the exclusive car-share provider to the University of Southern California. Students will be able to rent vehicles for $5 per hour, a lower rate than Maven's usual starting price of $8. College administrators will have their own dedicated vehicle to reserve. $4 Million Project Includes 40 Senior Living Apartments The Heritage Place senior living apartment complex took another step closer to becoming a reality as the building permit was issued on Monday, Aug. 15. The complex will be constructed next to Orscheln’s, beside and behind the Dos Primos restaurant location . It will feature affordable housing for senior citizens who are 55 and older. The project was proposed more than a year ago to the Board of Aldermen by Woodco, Inc., out of Billings, Mo. The company secured federal and state tax incentives to take on the project which has made the process take longer. The project will be developed by DowCon, LLC, out of Kansas City. Doff Woodman, of Woodco, addressed the board about the development and noted it will be a top-notch facility.
