Newport Beach’s newest luxury apartment complex is now clear to have live entertainment on the grounds. Villas Fashion Island got Planning Commission clearance Thursday to amend its permit to allow live entertainment and an outdoor sound system . The entertainment, not limited to musical acts, could include performers such as magicians, jugglers or stilt walkers, according to a city staff report . The commission voted 5 -0, with members Kory Kramer and Peter Zak absent , to approve the change. Michael Ayaz, a lawyer representing the complex’s owner, the Irvine Co., told the commission the Villas had every other amenity a high-end resort would have, except live entertainment . “Most of the residents are really seeking this,” he said. A wealthy Orange County investor has acquired Brookstone Apartment Homes in Buena Park for $38 million. Patrick Cadigan , the former chief executive of Electronic Engineering Co. of California, bought the 184-unit community at 7400 Artesia Blvd. from L&B Realty Advisors , a Dallas- based investment firm with real estate holdings across the country. Built in 1977, Brookstone consists of 112 one-bedroom and 72 two-bedroom units across 17 two-story buildings. The property features a pool and spa, a fitness center and covered parking. Carl Greenwood , general partner of real estate investment firm Greenwood & McKenzie, said Cadigan liked the quality of the recently renovated complex . “There’s a shortage of supply of good apartment complexes for sale,” he said. Cadigan, who made headlines last year when he pledged to donate $27 million to a pair of schools in Boston, is one of the county’s largest real estate investors . A five-year-old child was stabbed to death in a domestic violence incident on the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill campus , officials said. The child's parents were also injured in the incident, which happened around 11.45pm Saturday and was reported to authorities around 12.12am Sunday, The Herald-Sun reported. When Matt Metzger and Carly Wingert showed up to view apartments early Friday afternoon at a complex on the south end of town, the property management office was closed. Another tenant pointed them to the mailbox with applications they could take and fill out. But it was empty. So they were off to make more calls. They'd already looked at a couple of places, including one that still was under renovation. "The struggle is real," Wingert said, still cheerful nonetheless. "It's not easy at all," Metzger said. A shooting was reported at Spring Valley Apartments in Murfreesboro on Manor Drive. The person who called in the shots being fired told police that she was inside her apartment when she heard arguing. When she peeked out her window she saw a man pull a gun from the waistband of his pants. The man then opened fire and she quickly dived for cover. The man along with a small crowd at the apartment complex, quickly fled in multiple directions. When police arrived at around 5:40 on Wednesday evening, they found that one car had an obvious bullet hole in the rear of the roof. Another bullet went through the window of the same car. Three . 45 caliber shell casings were recovered by police, the bullet shells were on the sidewalk near the car that was shot. Initially, police were told that someone had been shot at the complex. However, they were unable to locate any possible gunshot wound victims . The case remains open at this time. Source: MPD Incident 17-25760

BMC Investments plans to turn two buildings along St. Paul Street and another on Josephine Street into two apartment buildings up to seven or eight floors tall and a cheaper hotel for travelers who don’t want to shell out top dollar. The Fremaux Town Center retail - residential development continues to be a bright spot in Slidell's economic picture, and more construction is coming to the area, Mayor Freddy Drennan said Friday (Aug. 18). During his annual State of the City presentation before the East St. Tammany Chamber of Commerce, Drennan said the Fremaux Town Center has created 1, 800 retail jobs . "That's a lot of jobs, folks. A lot of work,'' he said during the address at Pinewood Country Club in Slidell.   Developers Stirling Properties, based in Covington, and Chattanooga, Tenn.-based CBL & Associates Properties Inc., opened Fremaux Town Center at Interstate 10 and Fremaux Avenue in March 2014. Additional stores and an apartment complex have been added since then, with more construction currently underway.
