As Case & Associates Properties finishes up work on its new Portofino Apartments at 127th Street East and Central, the Tulsa-based company is preparing to start a new complex in Maize. President Scott Case has been keeping the project quiet until now because “homeowners are very sensitive now when you say ‘multifamily.’   ” The approximately 270-unit complex will be on about 14 acres north of the Maize City Administration building, which is north of 37th and Maize Road. A Kentucky development group is planning a 180- unit affordable apartment complex in north Baton Rouge on the corner of Airline Highway and Plank Road. LDG Development , which specializes in affordable housing , is still in the planning stages for the project, which is named Commodore Pointe . The Baton Rouge North Economic Development District announced the project at its meeting last night. A spokeswoman for the firm declined to comment, but LDG is not new to Baton Rouge. The firm previously developed the $ 24 million Mallard Crossing apartment complex on Greenwell Springs Road in 2012, as well as the Woodcrest Apartments, an $ 8 million development completed in 2013 on North Lobdell Boulevard . Briarcliff Development Co. plans a ribbon cutting Tuesday on its $42. 5 million apartment complex that has added 340 high- end residential units to the Northland. The Landing at Briarcliff, which accepted its first tenants in September and now is 55 percent leased, has nine residential buildings, a club house, and a stand-alone fitness facility. “The fitness center is a real plus,” said Richie Benninghoven, the development company ’s president. “We may give a tenant a free session with a personal trainer or a massage as an incentive for signing a lease.” Other tenant incentives include a large, heated, outdoor saltwater pool , pet-friendly buildings, community garden plots , and — something that’s proved popular — the ability to paint accent walls in the units.
