Man arrested, accused of starting Pueblo apartment fire

A man suspected of first-degree arson for allegedly starting a fire in his Belmont apartment unit earlier this month was arrested on a warrant Sunday night following his release from the hospital after he was treated for injuries he sustained in that blaze. Around 9:30 p.m. Aug. 6, the Pueblo Fire Department was dispatched to a fire at the Casa Del Sol Apartments on the 1700 block of Constitution Road and arrived to find heavy smoke coming from a unit. Upon entering the apartment the smoke was emanating from, fire personnel discovered that there were two separate and distinct fires inside , according to an arrest affidavit. One of the fires was located near the center of the living room near a pile of materials, and the other was in the bathroom. There were three points of origin for the fires, police said. After performing a quick attack, firefighters were able to contain the blaze to just the one unit. Police called to the scene to begin an arson investigation...

An overview of the 2017 Buffalo apartment market

Multifamily sales totaled $147 million in the Buffalo area market in 2016, up from $127 in 2015 and again above the $ 100 million dollar level achieved each of the last five years.  The investment market is most active in suburban garden apartment complexes . Private locally based principals were active as both buyers and sellers with prices at all-time high per unit valuations . These older apartment properties comprise the majority of the existing inventory and are often fully occupied with rising rents. From a tenant perspective they are often the best housing available at a given price. Located in dense residential neighborhoods , they are near employment, shopping, entertainment and within desirable suburban school districts . It would be impossible to duplicate them today in the same locations with the same rent structure and consequently they have little competition in their price range. This drives the rent growth that attracts investors. In April of 2017, RENTCafe’s surve...

Investor buys Buena Park apartments

A wealthy Orange County investor has acquired Brookstone Apartment Homes in Buena Park for $38 million. Patrick Cadigan , the former chief executive of Electronic Engineering Co. of California, bought the 184-unit community at 7400 Artesia Blvd. from L&B Realty Advisors , a Dallas- based investment firm with real estate holdings across the country. Built in 1977, Brookstone consists of 112 one-bedroom and 72 two-bedroom units across 17 two-story buildings. The property features a pool and spa, a fitness center and covered parking. Carl Greenwood , general partner of real estate investment firm Greenwood & McKenzie, said Cadigan liked the quality of the recently renovated complex . “There’s a shortage of supply of good apartment complexes for sale,” he said. Cadigan, who made headlines last year when he pledged to donate $27 million to a pair of schools in Boston, is one of the county’s largest real estate investors . He owns nearly 1, 800 apartment units across 11 comple...

Watertown Daily Times | As popularity and prices rise, developers build more tiny units

ARTICLE OPTIONS Throughout his early 60s, Brad Buchner and his wife, Elizabeth, lived in the kind of house that many near-retirees dream of: a peaceful, manageable ranch- style property tucked in a quiet Poconos town surrounded by trees, lakes, and plentiful open space . Costing anywhere from $30,000 to $150,000, tiny homes designed by Escape Homes enable anyone to travel around the country in a single-family home. As it turns out, however, that’s exactly what Buchner and his wife don’t want as they think about the next years of their lives. Three years ago, the Buchners packed their things and headed to Philadelphia, settling down in a Center City rental . As if ditching their longtime rural digs weren ’t enough, the pair also abandoned spaciousness, swapping their three-bedroom, two-bathroom home for precisely 345 total square feet . The transition has meant parting ways with a fully finished basement and a home office, and adjusting to an ovenless kitchenette and two miniature...

300 apartments at Subaru site

Woodcrest Country Club will be preserved in perpetuity under a deal reached between owners and town officials . (Photo: JOHN ZIOMEK/Courier-Post) Story Highlights The Short Hills complex, to be made up entirely of affordable units , would be developed by Fair Share Housing Center , a Cherry Hill- based advocacy center for affordable housing . CHERRY HILL – A deal to preserve Woodcrest Country Club could put more than 800 apartments on commercial sites on the township's west side, including the current headquarters of Subaru of America. The plan, which needs a judge's approval, would include from 90 to 124 units for people with low and moderate incomes — part of an agreement to settle a 30- year court fight over Cherry Hill's affordable-housing obligation. Township officials have said the agreement would bar future development at the 180- acre country club . The club's owner, Cherry Hill Land Associates , had sued the township in an effort to build an 844- unit apa...
