LAS VEGAS (KTNV) - Firefighters were forced to leave an apartment fire Friday afternoon after being informed of a possibly armed man in the unit. At 4 p.m., the Clark County Fire Department received 911 calls reporting a balcony on fire at the Copper Creek Apartments located at 9490 S. Bermuda Road, near Richmar Avenue.  Upon arrival fire crews found smoke coming from the balcony of a second floor apartment .  Firefighters quickly made access through the locked apartment door and were able to extinguish the bulk of the fire when they were informed that a man was barricaded in the apartment and possibly armed with a weapon. Firefighters retreated from the area leaving all their equipment behind and began evacuating bystanders to a safe location out of the line of sight of the apartment. SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane fire crews responded to a fire at the Greentree Apartment Complex in Browne’s Addition Friday afternoon . Spokane Fire Department Chief of Operations Mark John said crews arrived on scene and saw heavy smoke and fire on the third floor of the complex. Crews also saw residents quickly exiting the building as the fire continued to burn. All occupants escaped the complex with no reported injuries. John said the fire was under control within 20 minutes. The cause and origin of the fire are still under investigation. Investigators confirmed three apartments on the third floor were affected by the fire and deemed uninhabitable. The American Red Cross will be assisting the four adults who have been displaced. John pointed out ventilation holes were a major feat for crews to dissipate the fire.  © 2017 KREM-TV

A child who was among four people hospitalized after an Arkansas apartment fire late last week has died, authorities said Thursday. In a statement, the Pine Bluff Fire Department said that a 3-year-old was pronounced dead Sunday after being transported to Arkansas Children ’s Hospital in Little Rock. Crews with the Fire Department were called around 1:10 a.m. Friday to a fire at 2200 Woodgate Drive, the address for Pinewood Apartments. Two people — a child and a woman — have been released from the hospital, according to the agency. A third child remained hospitalized as of Thursday afternoon. All four, who were initially transported to Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff, had been taken for treatment of smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

When Matt Metzger and Carly Wingert showed up to view apartments early Friday afternoon at a complex on the south end of town, the property management office was closed. Another tenant pointed them to the mailbox with applications they could take and fill out. But it was empty. So they were off to make more calls. They'd already looked at a couple of places, including one that still was under renovation. "The struggle is real," Wingert said, still cheerful nonetheless. "It's not easy at all," Metzger said.
