Man killed outside Forest Hills Apartments

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A man was killed overnight at the Forest Hills Apartments on Forest City Road . Orange County sheriff spokesman Jeff Williamson said the victim is 35-year-old Julio Velez. Advertisement Get breaking news alerts sent to your email Williamson said Velez, who did not live at the apartments, was found dead around 6:30 a.m. Sunday near his gray 2006 Chevy Impala , in the parking lot of the apartments, which are on State Road 434 between Kennedy Boulevard and Riverside Park Road . A neighbor found the body and called 911. "In the parking spot, his door was open and his body was outside,” said visitor Jose Velez . "I didn't know if he was asleep or dead or what." Neighbors describe a bloody scene.  Investigators were using mulch to clean up the crime scene. "(One neighbor) couldn't go to work because the car was on. Another big development in St. Johns County is getting rolling. The three builders in Bannon Lakes have already been building in individual neighborhoods. But now the amenity center and entrance are complete, and it’s ready for a grand opening. Bannon Lakes is big at 580 acres and has plans for up to 849 single-family homes, 150 townhomes, 15,000 square feet of office and 105,000 square feet of commercial/retail. The three neighborhoods: Southshore at Bannon Lakes, KB Home, $220,000-$260,000. Bridge Bay at Bannon Lakes, Pulte Homes, $240,000-$300,000. It’s a gated, 55+ community. The Grove at Bannon Lakes, AV Homes, $285,000-$350,000. The grand opening is from 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 16 and will feature food trucks and live music. Heavy rain causes record-breaking flooding in Kansas City area

FAIRWAY, Kan. —   Strong thunderstorms moved through the Kansas City area Monday night and into Tuesday morning, creating record-breaking flooding and forcing emergency crews to conduct hundreds of water rescues. The National Weather Service said as much as 9 inches of rain fell in one neighborhood, while a large swath around the city saw between 4 and 6 inches of rain. Several water rescues have been conducted by the Kansas City Fire Department , Kansas City Police Department , Riverside Fire Department and Overland Park Fire Department . The KCFD and KCPD say they have received more than 130 calls for water rescues. Overland Park Fire Department said it also responded to at least 16 water rescue calls . The OPFD is working to rescue a family of seven trapped on the roof of a home. Officials say the family consists of four children, three adults and their pets.
