Police: Man shot in elbow, buttocks area at Aqueduct Apartment complex Thursday morning
A 56-year-old Newport News man is receiving treatment after being shot in the elbow and buttocks area at the Aqueduct Apartment complex in Newport News on Thursday morning , officials said. The incident occurred shortly after 2 a.m. when gunshots were heard on Giovanni Court inside the apartment complex , according to Newport News Master Police Officer Brandon Maynard . The victim was approached by the suspect while sitting in his car. The suspect asked the man for what he had and words were exchanged before the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the man, police said. The victim was able to drive to a nearby hospital where police were called shortly before 2:10 a.m. He was later transferred to another hospital for treatment of his gunshot wounds. The victim's status is unknown at this time, Maynard said. Police said the suspect is a black male about 5-foot-11. The investigation is ongoing, Maynard said.
