Unable to commit. Fear of missing out on something else (#FOMO). Not ready to settle down. No, we're not referring to your ex. Renters also often get a bad rap for being more flighty than their homeowner peers. And it isn't completely unfounded. Nearly two-thirds of renters, about 64%, plan to settle down in a different city, according to an Apartment List report . So where do they want to go? And, perhaps more importantly, where do they want to leave? The rental website surveyed about 24,000 renters, nearly two-thirds of whom were millennials, and then dug into its own internal data for the report. Apartment List looked at 50 large metros across the country for the report. It turns out renters in the priciest metros on the coasts, such as New York and San Francisco, and in inland cities where costs are rising rapidly, like Denver and Austin, TX, are the most eager to move. Dumplings and smiles The LA Times is reporting that Allan Tea, the man responsible for those popular Hello Kitty Cafe pop -ups across Southern California, has partnered up with a onetime Din Tai Fung chef to open a new restaurant down in Irvine. Called Paper Lantern , the project kicks off early next month at Diamond Jamboree Plaza off Alton Parkway. The decision by Tea to partner with Kenny Lim (whose family owns Mama Lu ’s Dumpling House) means that soon Orange County will have a pair of experts working to bring Paper Lantern to life. Lim comes with experience in the xiao long bao and beef roll world , while Tea knows more than a thing or two about crafting a quality dining experience . Developer Carl Dranoff is planning 28 stories of luxury condos at Broad and Pine Streets, instead of the hotel-and-apartment hybrid he previously had in mind for the site, as Center City heads toward a likely near-term glut of both rental housing and hotel guest rooms . The developer’s earlier vision of a 22-story building with 76 hotel rooms and 83 apartments known as the Hyde — to have been developed with the Los Angeles hospitality mogul Sam Nazarian ’s SBE Entertainment Group — has been supplanted by a new proposal with 56 “high-end” condos, Dranoff said in an email Tuesday. Its new expansion project, USC Village, is hailed for changing that. The 15-acre, $ 700 million housing and retail development brings a Trader Joe's to South L.A. for the first time, as well as a Target, with many other businesses (15 restaurants and nearly as many shops) to come — and with them, jobs. The Austin Film Festival , set to take place October 26-November 2, has announced the first 10 titles scheduled to screen during its 2017 edition, its 24th. Included among the selected works are nine films and one television episode: the season finale of HBO’s The Deuce , created by David Simon and George Pelecanos, who will be in attendance. The Deuce Other announced titles include Permanent with Rainn Wilson and Patricia Arquette, Please Stand By with Dakota Fanning and Toni Collete, and 24 Hours to Live with Ethan Hawke and Liam Cunningham.
