Benson Gathany moved into his first dorm room at University of Georgia’s Boggs Hall on Aug. 6 with every intention of moving out as soon as possible. This freshman history major from Atlanta is currently in supplementary housing at Boggs, living in a study room turned dorm room with three other roommates. There were other vacancies.” About a month after they chose the dorm, housing emailed them their other roommates’ names, which is when they realized they would be in supplementary housing. “If we had looked at the fine print, it showed that there were four slots for that room,” Gathany said. “So we couldn’t ...

Ensure your utilities are set up This seems like a given. But electricity and water don't run themselves!  You don't have to worry about this if you're ...

By David Pendered Atlanta’s first transportation corridor of the future is to be established in Southwest Atlanta along Campbellton Road by the city and MARTA. Naturally, a computer and the internet of things are at the heart of the effort. MARTA has increased the frequency of buses based out of the Oakland City Station to serve Campbellton Road , a corridor with many transit-dependent riders. Credit: David Pendered Futuristic traffic signals , now slated for installation, have the capacity to coordinate competing mobility demands of vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians, according to Faye DiMassimo, general manager of the Renew Atlanta infrastructure bond program and the city’s sales-tax-funded projects. These traffic signals already are being installed along North Avenue. City officials plan to cut the ribbon Sept. 16 on this “ smart corridor ” during an event that’s to include a demonstration of autonomous vehicles. The North Avenue project , a pilot project, is just the begi...

It’s Wednesday afternoon and some pro soccer players are sitting around a small kitchen table , immersed in an intense card game similar to poker. San Francisco Deltas team captain Nana Attakora shuffles his cards with his thumbs, patiently waiting for his teammates to make a move.
