Written by Michael P. Walsh WEST HAVEN, CT — Clasping a pair of oversize scissors, Mayor Edward M. O’Brien cut the ceremonial ribbon Thursday with Acorn Group founder David A. Beckerman and Vice President Gary S. Letendre to mark the grand opening of Acorn’s The Atwood, an $18 million apartment and commercial development at 222 Boston Post Road aimed at making the neighborhood around the Allingtown Green a destination. Man killed outside Forest Hills Apartments

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A man was killed overnight at the Forest Hills Apartments on Forest City Road . Orange County sheriff spokesman Jeff Williamson said the victim is 35-year-old Julio Velez. Advertisement Get breaking news alerts sent to your email Williamson said Velez, who did not live at the apartments, was found dead around 6:30 a.m. Sunday near his gray 2006 Chevy Impala , in the parking lot of the apartments, which are on State Road 434 between Kennedy Boulevard and Riverside Park Road . A neighbor found the body and called 911. "In the parking spot, his door was open and his body was outside,” said visitor Jose Velez . "I didn't know if he was asleep or dead or what." Neighbors describe a bloody scene.  Investigators were using mulch to clean up the crime scene. "(One neighbor) couldn't go to work because the car was on. By Wednesday night, ten days later, dozens of Forest Hills residents , led by community activist Octavia Rainey , drew a notable crowd to a meeting in a Garner church on the issue.
