KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Residents of Briarcliff City Apartments were left high and dry after a problem with the water system feeding one of the large buildings caused the water to be shut off around 3 p.m. on Friday. N. A. Sunje, a Briarcliff resident of two years, said the apartments are not living up to the standards of an upscale apartment complex . "Luxury apartments. Four days without water. I've never heard about such a thing," Sunje remarked. Another resident, Sharon Cowen, discovered the shut-off as she washed her hair. "Well, yesterday afternoon I started to wash my hair and just had a dribble of water coming out of the faucet," Cowen recalled. She said she heated up some bottled water to wash her hair, but without bottled water, residents simply can not bathe at home. "I'm smelling now, really. September 13, 2010 | By Julie Scharper, The Baltimore Sun A former tenant is suing a Cockeysville apartment complex for $100,000 over a bedbug infestation , claiming that the property owners did not properly warn her about and exterminate the blood-sucking insects and that she suffered "scarring and disfigurement" from the bites. The tenant, Amber Croshaw, contends that she suffered "embarrassment, mental and emotional distress, and fear about the presence of bedbugs that affects [her] to this day" as a result of the infestation in the apartment in the Briarcliff Apartments East complex in Cockeysville, according to the lawsuit filed this month in Baltimore County Circuit Court . KANSAS CITY, Mo. - One company accused of polluting a local intersection says it's actually trying to prevent a disaster. USC Technologies is dumping fly ash into an underground mine at Briarcliff Parkway and 169 Highway. Flyash is a replacement for cement.  The company says the material needs to be dumped into the mine, in order to stabilize it. "It takes a long time for it to deteriorate, but we're doing it now so we don't have to worry about that happening. There's no immediate risk, but if you left it overtime, it could potentially collapse here", said president of USC Technologies Richie Benninghoven . USC Technologies says the historic mine extends underneath Briarcliff Village and the Briarcliff Apartments . According to state representatives, flyash is not toxic.

Briarcliff Development Co. plans a ribbon cutting Tuesday on its $42. 5 million apartment complex that has added 340 high- end residential units to the Northland.
